Mango’s current Chief Online & Customer Officer, Marlies Hersbach, has been appointed Chief People Officer, effective January 2027, replacing the departing David Payeras in the role.
Already a member of Mango’s executive committee, Dutch national Hersbach has held various business roles across several markets within Mango since joining the company in 2020 as International Retail Director.
She “brings a deep understanding of the company’s people and corporate culture” and will report directly to Mango Chairman and CEO Toni Ruiz.
Ruiz said: “The decision to appoint Marlies to lead the People division is in line with our aim to further align Mango’s culture and values with our business strategy and reality, whilst also committing to the internationalisation of our company.
“This appointment also reflects our firm commitment to fostering internal talent and strengthening female leadership within the company’s senior management.”
Hersbach added: “Taking on the leadership of People is a new challenge that I am tackling with great enthusiasm. My career at Mango has allowed me to see first-hand that it is the people, our teams and our culture that really make the difference.
“My ambition is to continue driving an organisation that develops talent, fosters collaboration and creates the conditions for people and the business to keep growing together, thereby supporting Mango’s growth and transformation.”
To ensure a smooth transition and the continuity of ongoing projects, Payeras will work closely with Hersbach over the coming months to lead the handover of responsibilities.
Last month, Mango appointed another existing employee, Katarzyna Niemirowicz Majtas, as Chief Retail Officer amid plans to open a further 15 stores in the UK this year.
She joined the company in early 2026 as International Retail Director for Northern Europe, bringing more than 20 years’ experience in international retail and commercial leadership.
Her promotion coincided with Mango opening a 6,200 sq ft store at Eastgate Square in Chester, marking the retailer’s second location in the area.
