TOAST taps Bethany Williams for second Renewed By collection

British lifestyle brand TOAST has tapped London-based designer Bethany Williams for the second instalment of TOAST Renewed By, its limited-edition series of one-off garments reworked from pieces that can no longer be repaired or resold.

The 16-piece capsule spans womenswear, menswear and accessories and forms part of TOAST’s autumn/winter 2026 collection. Each piece is made from previously worn garments by the brand, including items returned through its Circle programme, which are not able to be mended or resold. The brand said the collection explores lineage, folklore, light and “the restorative potential of craft”.

The dedication to circularity and craft are values that align with Williams’ own practice. The British designer, artist and humanitarian is a well-known figure in the sustainable fashion world, with her projects and collections addressing social and environmental issues.

The new collection is a deeply personal one for the designer, who was forced to step away from fashion following a chronic illness in 2022, with the collaboration marking her tentative return to the industry.

Throughout the collection Williams references landscapes and symbols connected to the Isle of Man, her birthplace, incorporating painting, stitched motifs, and patchwork construction of standing stones, wind-shaped trees, and the quiet light filtering through forests on garments.

The collection features painted surfaces that draw on the colours of the island, from a crisp blue sky, blue lichen clinging to ancient stone, and the “shifting light that moves through the island’s trees”.

“The collection tells a story about what we carry: the histories held within garments, the communities that support us, and the landscapes that help us find our way back to ourselves. It reflects the belief that even in loss, love remains – changing form but continuing to guide us forward,” commented Williams on the collection.

The collection’s knitwear pieces were developed in collaboration with knitwear designer Alice Morell Evans, and supports Making for Change, a training and manufacturing social enterprise that is part of the London College of Fashion.

The Williams capsule is twice the size of the series’ debut. In September 2025, TOAST worked with Dutch textile artist Meta Struycken on an eight-garment collection made from fabric remnants from her studio, together with TOAST items that had been returned and damaged. Struycken used embroidery, appliqué, quilting and darning. The pieces were shown at TOAST Brooklyn from 20 September to 19 October 2025 and sold online from 23 September.

At the 2025 launch, TOAST Brand Director Rosie McKissock said: “with ‘Renewed by’ we will work with people who share our values and also have their own unique design handwriting, allowing us to extend that idea of imaginative transformation even further.”

She added: “Like anything ‘simple’, there is a huge amount of skill in being able to repair clothing or textiles. Truly, it’s an art form.”

According to TOAST’s 2025 Social Conscience Report, 7,559 garments were given a second life last year through its repair, exchange, renew and reworn initiatives, which fall under the brand’s Circle programme. Using WRAP’s displacement methodology, the brand calculated that its repair service and Reworn collection alone prevented 4,849 new purchases in 2025.

In the same report, the brand revealed that 99% of its clothing products came from natural and cellulosic fibres, up from 92% the previous year. It has also increased its use of certified organic cotton from 39% to 52%, with plans to further increase this number over the coming years.

The capsule collection will be available to buy from 15 October 2026 on the TOAST website.
